I want to get in to some new music. I've realized that I only listen to a narrow spectrum and want to get in to more music, specifically the popular bands of today. Right now, I mostly listen to O.A.R, Led Zeppelin, Guns N Roses, and Dispatch. Please give me some suggestions of GOOD music to get in to, from any genre.

My friend has an XM radio in his car but he mainly listens to rap and hip hop, so whenever we chill I play around with the dial and let him experience all the different types of music there are to enjoy out there.. Everything from death metal to opera to trance... I was listening the other day and took a name down: Bjorn Torske.... my other friend recommends: Echo and the Bunny Men.

Here are a few FREE and Legal web services that allow you to listen to music as well as help you find new music you would enjoy.


www.last.fm

Last.fm provides a service that allows you to find the statistics of your music taste. It also finds other members with similar tastes and suggests bands that are similar to what you listen to. Also when you visit a bands page they will often have some of their songs if not a small clip of their music.



http://hypem.com/

The Hype Machine is a website that searches through popular music blogs that promote new and exciting music. If that blog uploaded a mp3 of that song it will appear on their site. This is usually where you can find band that are just about to break into mainstream. Or are popular underground (Unsigned etc) This site can be integrated with twitter to update your status every time you favourite a song you like. Consequently you find A LOT of awesome music Blogs through here.


www.spotify.com

Spotify (Windows Only) is a program you download and install onto your computer that is free and allows you to listen to all the music you would ever want to listen to. It wont have completely full albums but it comes very close. It simply streams stuff. Really great program for finding out if you would want to buy/download this or that album. Works online only. I have no Idea how they keep this free/legal but it is.


If I remember more ill put them up. As for actually getting the music for your own use. That is up to you how legal you want to keep it :P. I will say no more as I quite like this forum and wouldn't want to risk its legality!
