Default How do you start up a business?

Hey guys,

I'm on my gap year, and I have a business idea, now I am going to put it into action. Essentially I want to make my business this year. Being a good business man, i'm not going to post what my concept is online. Rather, I have come to ask you for help!

Do you know the procedures one must take to start a business? How to register trade names, creating business bank accounts, getting franchises and the other government legal requirements needed?

If so, please, please reply!

Much love,

CD.

Now it all depends on what road you take. But the first thing you should do is write up a business plan.

http://www.entrepreneur.com: They have simple plans
http://www.sba.gov/smallbusinessplanner/index.html: Great info

That should be your main focus so that you know exactly what to do and how long everything is gonna take.

I'd imagine you need to talk to a lawyer to process everything?

You may not need to register a business at all, you could start as a sole trader (self employed). It's a lot cheaper and less risk that way.

If you do start a business you'll need to register a Ltd company which costs around £50. It's often good to get an accountant to help do this for you as each year you have a legal requirement to file accounts.

I would start with research. Without research, you might as well keep your money because there's an excellent chance it won't sell.

There are millions of excited youngsters all with their million dollar idea, only to find out after they start that they're not making any sales.

Google is at your disposal. Find out if people are willing to put money from their own pocket for similar products and services.

Just my 2 cents

I've now set up as Ltd company in the UK - it's not too hard. There are however additional costs involved as you need to prepare company accounts each year for company's house.
